Michael Neustadter, 61, Margate
Funeral services, attended by close to 800 mourners, were held Sunday at Congregation Beth Judah for Michael Neustadter, 61, chairman of the AtlantiCare System Board of Trustees. Mr. Neustadter died at his home in Margate, on Thursday, Jan. 19, after a courageous year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Michael Neustadter
Rabbi Alan B. Lucas, of Temple Beth Sholom of Roslyn Heights, in New York, joined Beth Judah Rabbi Aaron Gaber and family members who eulogized Mr. Neustadter. Lucas had served as Beth Judah’s rabbi from 1981 to 1994.
A lifelong resident of Margate, Michael Neustadter was born June 15, 1950 to Milton and Shirlee Neustadter. He graduated Atlantic City High School in 1968, where he was Junior Class president, attended Kent State University until the shootings, and graduated from Temple University in 1972.
After college, he returned to the area and continued to work in the family hotel business. In 1975 Michael married Anne Goldberg, the daughter of his father’s business partner and close friend Maxwell Goldberg. After serving as Vice President of Customer Development at Caesars and then the Golden Nugget, he left the industry to become a successful broker in the financial planning industry.
He also served as president of Beth Judah synagogue and, most recently, as Chairman of the Board of the AtlantiCare Health System.
He was an avid golfer and huge Philly sports fan, and loved music, summer, and the beach – but he lived for his family.
Michael Neustadter is survived by his parents Milton and Shirlee Neustadter, his wife Anne, children Scott (Lauren), Julie and Katie, his brother Dr. Lawrence Neustadter (Diane), sister Lisa Cohen ( Lawrence), mother- in- law Shirley Goldberg, brother-in-law Roy Goldberg (Joanne), 8 nephews and 3 nieces.
Interment was at Rodef Sholom Cemetery in Egg Harbor Twp. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions can be made to the Michael J. Neustadter Pancreatic Cancer Fund, PO Box 3265 Margate NJ, 08402.
