A Photo, You Might Say, That is Making a Point(s)
The above photo, with the setting sun radiating like a six-pointed star, was taken last month by Fred Fabel of Brigantine, while he and his wife, Jackie, were on a back bay dinner cruise sponsored by Temple Beth Shalom.
"We had dinner and I was taking sunset shots. When I got back home and put the pictures into the computer, I couldn't believe it. The first one has the Star of David (above) while the other two just have the sunset glow with no distinct shape," he said.
Could the result have been due to a special lens or a filter on the lens? "No," he said. "My camera doesn't even accept any filters or other lenses. There's been no alteration. The picture you see is how it came out of the camera. I happened to be lucky enough to get a unique photo people can look at and interpret anyway they like. Whatever the viewer sees in it. I don't remember it showing up in the viewfinder. As I recall, I was just concentrating on composition. Making sure I had the reflection."
Fabel has been selling 4-by-5 prints of the photo for $5, with the proceeds going to the synagogue. NBC40 in Atlantic City and NBC10 in Philadelphia featured segments on Fabel's photo.
How do you explain it, Fabel was asked? "You can't," he said. "It's just unique. Totally different."
