Beth Israel Vineland to Hold Tashlich Ceremony

VINELAND — Beth Israel Congregation will hold a High Holidays Tashlich ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 9, at 6:45 p.m., at Giampietro Park, Landis and Lincoln Avenues, Vineland.

Rabbi Alfredo S. Winter, spiritual leader of Beth Israel Congregation, will lead the ceremony, which will be preceded by a Mincha Service at 6:30 p.m.

The custom of Tashlich (or “casting off”) is based on a passage in the Book of the Prophet Micah and consists of going to the bank of a river or the nearest body of water on the afternoon of the First Day of Rosh Hashanah – or the Second Day if the First Day falls on Shabbat. Transgressions are symbolically “cast away” by throwing crumbs of bread into the water, which, signifying the essence of life, is always subject to change and renewal.

Those who come should bring crumbs of bread and surprises will be in store for children who attend. For more information, please call the Beth Israel Congregation office at 856- 691-0852.
