Take an extended family that leads a traditional Jewish life, has a deep love for Israel, and grandchildren who attend Jewish Day School. Put them together at the grandparents’ summer home in Ventnor and guess what happens:

Of course – a lemonade stand on the Boardwalk that’s raising money for the Rabin Medical Center, one of the largest medical facilities in Israel.

“The kids love it,” said Susan Klein, their grandmother. “We all have a tremendous love for Israel. We chose the Rabin Medical Center as the recipient because it makes our cause non-political, just a good deed effort. We all talk about the many different ways you can give tzedakah.”

Adam Eber and Sam Rael. Adam Eber and Sam Rael. Susan and her husband, Alan, live in Dallas, Tex., but bought a summer home here eight years ago. Alan was born and raised in this area with his parents Leonard and Bea Klein (now Bea Klein Newborn). His roots go back yet another generation to his grandparents, Charles and Sara Klein. Charles owned and operated Charles of Atlantic City, a high-end mens’ fashion shop on the Boardwalk. The maternal grandparents were Lillian and Jacob Josephson.

“Each summer for the last eight years our family has gatherd at our summer home here. It holds very special memories for Alan, who grew up here, and our two daughters and their husbands, and now our grandchildren,” said Susan.

“Our grandchildren attend Oakland Hebrew School in Oakland, California, and we wanted to demonstrate how important it is to show support for Israel and at the same time have a lot of fun doing it. The children were involved in all stages of planning for the Lemon Aid for Israel Stand. We’ll be back on the Boardwalk each Sunday until the end of summer, and our goal is to raise $1,000.”

“We wanted to put Israel in a positive light,” said Susan. “And we wanted to do it as a family.” So far they have $250.
