Cape May Stage Presents “Operation Adelmo: The Clown Prince of Opera”

Cape May Stage is presenting operatic baritone Adelmo Guidarelli in “Operation Adelmo: The Clown Prince of Opera”, a raucous show in which Guidarelli entertains both die-hard opera lovers and self-avowed haters of the art. By weaving well-known arias with their pop culture counterparts, Guidarelli keeps the audience laughing.

As part of Cape May Stage’s Second Stage Series, the presentation will take place on Monday, Aug. 2 at 8 p.m. at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse on the corner of Bank and Lafayette Streets in Cape May.

In the tradition of Peter Schickele and P.D.Q. Bach, “Operation Adelmo” is an elegant evening of irony and arias starring Guidarelli, the opera singer Jerome Hines called, “the up and coming baritone of the decade”. Guidarelli has played to standing ovations all over the world, including New York, Las Vegas, Rome, and of course, New Jersey.

The 90-minute solo entertainment takes the audience on a song- journey into a world of music and mayhem that critics have compared to Victor Borge and Anna Russell. Along with his romantic river-rumbling baritone voice, Guidarelli plays a multitude of musical instruments, such as guitar, banjo, ukulele, accordion and kazoo.

“Operation Adelmo: The Clown Prince of Opera” is a one-night limited engagement. Tickets are $20. Call 884-1341 for reservations and information or visit the theatre’s website, www.capemaystage.com. Cape May Stage’s Second Stage Series is generously sponsored by Chris and Dave Clemans.
