Annual Cantors Concert Features David Propis
David Propis
This year’s annual Cantors Concert will take place at Beth Israel on Sunday Aug. 1, at 7 p.m. This will be the first time Beth Israel is hosting the concert, which will feature a huge ensemble made up of members of both the American Conference of Cantors (Reform) and the Cantors Assembly (Conservative).
Making a cameo appearance in the ensemble will be members of the Jewish Educators Assembly who will be participants in this year’s two-day retreat. Every year cantors from this region (Philadelphia/South Jersey) and the North Jersey region converge in Atlantic City for a concert at a local synagogue, and sessions and camaraderie at Caesars.
The retreat’s co-chairs are Cantors Ralph Goren of Beth El and Alisa Pomerantz Boro of Beth El, Voorhees.
Host Cantor Larisa Averbakh and Rabbi David Weis said that they were “thrilled to welcome the cantors to Beth Israel.”
This will also be the first local concert for new Beth Judah Hazzan Jeffrey Myers. Beth El Cantor Ralph Goren will also be participating. Cantors Assembly National President David Propis will be among the soloists.
Theme of the concert is “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” which features cantorial music of the past, present and into the future.
Tickets are $70 for patrons, $40 for sponsors, and $20 for general admission. They are available from Beth Israel, Beth El and Beth Judah and also at the door.
