Surviving the Application Process for Parents
Jewish Family Service’s Rothenberg Center will be presenting Linda Steinberg George, a professional writing coach, certified teacher and award-winning writer, to conduct two informative workshops:
College Essay Boot Camp for high school juniors and seniors on Monday, June 28 and Surviving the College Application Process for parents on Tuesday June 29.
Boot Camp will strengthen students’ college essay writing skills to get the attention of college admissions officers and Surviving the College Application Process will help parents gain a clearer understanding of how the application process works; the do’s and don’ts and time saving strategies.
“The college admissions process is much like looking for a job; you may have the qualifications, but may not know how to sell yourself,” says George, formerly a Margate resident, now residing in Elkins Park, Pa. “Former students often return to tell us that the skills they acquired during this process helped them, long after their coaching sessions ended.”
One parent who has attended the workshops commented, “The process would have been overwhelming without Linda’s assistance. She made the application process a calm experience.”
Boot Camp for students will be held on June 28, from 6 to 8 p.m., at a cost of $36, which includes materials, pizza and drink. The College Application workshop for parents will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 7 to 9 p.m., at a cost of $25. Sign-up for both workshops and the cost is $50 total.
Both workshops will be held at Jewish Family Service, 607 N. Jerome Avenue, Margate. Please register early to reserve your spot as space is limited, but no later than Monday 6/21, by contacting Sharon Simon at 822-1108 or at ssimon@jfsatlantic.org.
