2010 Avoda Scholarship Awards
Samantha Rosenberg
The Avoda Club has announced the winners of the Avoda Awards for the 2010. This year, a total of $80,000 was divided among the three winners. A large number of applicants were received, 18 of them, all excellent students, all going through a rigorous evaluation process.
The top award of $40,000 went to Samantha Brooke Rosenberg, daughter of Ivy Shore Rosenberg and Larry Rosenberg. Samantha ranked in the top 5 percent of her class at Egg Harbor Township High School and was heavily involved in Jewish life and studies, in school and outside activities, assuming leadership roles. She will be a Public Policy major, attending the University of Delaware.
The two alternate awardees, each receiving a $20,000 award, are identical twin sisters, Alexandra Marie Richards and Sophie Emma Richards, daughters of Lisa and Paul Richards of Linwood. Both alternate awardees will be graduated from Mainland High School.
Alexandra Richards
Alexandra will be attending Tulane University, majoring in Exercise Science. Sophie will be attend Lafayette College, majoring in Engineering and the Physical Sciences.
Each awardee will be assigned their own proctor or mentor from the Avoda ranks. These proctors will maintain continuous contact with their charges, helping to solve any problems.
The heads of the Awards Committee, Dr. Edwin Snyder and Bruce Bogner, were complimented by the club for their efforts in recruiting the applicants, handling a variety of forms, and making sure that the evaluation process went off smoothly. There were 10 Avoda members who independently evaluated all of the applicants.
