FRED H. SHERMAN, 96
Fred H. Sherman, 96, of Ventnor, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Born in Richmond, VA, he was the father of Arthur J. (Karen), Michael T., and Jill Cakert (Buck); and the beloved husband of Edith; also brother of Mary Fleishman (Jack), Claire Teplitzky, and David Sherman (Rose). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 1 greatgrandchild.
Fred came to fame in Atlantic City after World War II, where he served in the U. S. Army Air Corps, making sandwiches with his brother, Dave, in a string of restaurants which they co-owned, that ultimately came to be known as “My Brother’s Place.” Treating everyone like family with their “Southern Hospitality” was their aim.
Fred was a member of Keystone Lodge F&AM for over 60 years. He loved people and spending time with family and friends. He also very much loved to cook. Fred spent his “so-called retirement years” running Freddie’s Friendly Tours, a local tour operation, with his wife of 67 years, “Eve.” He also enjoyed gallivanting around on his Honda Shadow motorcycle all the way into his 89th year.
Graveside services were held Thursday, April 29, at Beth Kehillah Cemetery, in Egg Harbor Twp. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Jewish Federation, 501 N. Jerome Avenue, Margate NJ 08402.
Arrangements were by ROTH-GOLDSTEINS’ MEMORIAL CHAPEL, Atlantic City.
