Local Jewish Business Book Sells Out First Printing Limited Numbered Editions Available

A Dream • A Journey • A Community: A Nostalgic Look at Jewish Businesses in and around Atlantic City has sold out its first regular printing, announced Publisher Rob Huberman of ComteQ Publishing in Margate. “In less than a year we are now out of stock of our print run of 1,200 copies,” he told the Jewish Times.

“The award-winning, 172 page, hardcover coffee table edition will not be reprinted,” Huberman added.

But that doesn’t mean that anyone who missed out on getting a copy of this tribute to our Jewish community is totally out of luck. The book’s creator and editor, Leo Schoffer, is making about 100 “Limited Special Edition” copies available to the community at a special price.

“These editions have only been used for high donor fundraising,” said Schoffer.

The books come shrink wrapped in a genuine bonded leather slipcase with gold foil printing. Each book contains an extra printed page identifying it as a Limited Special Edition and with an individually numbered gold label. Only 300 copies have been produced and numbers 200-300 are available for $118 each.

“Profits from the sales of these books benefit a Jewish Education scholarship fund,” added Schoffer.

The book takes a nostalgic look at the bygone era of Jewish businesses in and around Atlantic City and contains over 350 photos never seen before in public and dozens of family stories and commentaries reminiscent of Atlantic City’s Jewish business “glory days” – from the turn of the century to the 1970s. It is categorized into sections covering Apparel, the Boardwalk, Food & Beverage, Hotels & Motels, Restaurants, Theaters & Entertainment, and Wholesale & Retail.

Last month the book won the Bronze Medal in the 2010 Axiom Business Books Awards in the category of Corporate History/Milestone, its second publishing award to date.

Copies can be ordered online at www.acjewishbusinessbook.com or by calling the publisher at 487-9000.
