Do a Mitzvah, Make Soup

Beth El’s fifth annual ‘Soup for Charity” event is scheduled to be held this year at the synagogue on Monday and Tuesday, April 26 and 27.

The annual event, which depends on volunteer support from the community, provides soup for children in need, the elderly, and those who are sick.

“Each year,” said Sybil Lewkowitz, who chairs the volunteer project, “we strive to top the previous year. The people who come out to prepare the soup, help cut the veggies, pack the containers, clean up and help man our assembly line have helped make this wonderful project successful in past years.”

Monday begins at 2 p.m., and Tuesday’s soup making starts at 10 a.m. Volunteers can show up with their favorite recipes – all ingredients, containers and utensils are donated.

The soup is distributed to worthy charities, such as Covenant House, Gilda’s Club, Manna, Jewish Family Service and Adelaides.

To volunteer or for information call Sybil Lewkowitz at 823-9119 or 214-0239.
