Seashore Gardens Living Center Heating Up for ‘Summer Sizzlers’
It’s almost that time of year, when Seashore Gardens Living Center bursts with energy from 20-plus area teens ages 14 to 16 who work and volunteer at the Living Center during the summer months. The teens, known by staff, residents, and family members as the “Summer Sizzlers,” are compensated for certain jobs like helping with administrative work, assisting with snacks and meals, and accompanying a resident on a stroll.
Volunteer activities include taking part in pet visits, decorating for parties, visiting with residents, and watering plants. For each hour a Sizzler works, he or she volunteers an hour of time. The concept helps shape basic work ethics, while fostering the spirit of volunteerism.
“Each year the residents are always excited to see if they recognize a Sizzler from the previous year,” said Missy Rundio, Director of Recreation and Volunteers. Applications for the Summer Sizzler program will be accepted between April 1 and May 21.
Those interested should apply in person at Seashore Gardens Living Center. For more information, call 748-4407.
