Arlene Groch Named Woman of the Year

The board of the Atlantic County branch of the American Association of University Women has announced the selection of Arlene Gilbert Groch as its 2010 Woman of Distinction.
The luncheon and award program will be held at Greate Bay Country Club, Somers Point, on Saturday, March 20. Noon to 1 p.m. will be a social hour followed by lunch and the program.
Groch is being honored for her “accomplishments, abilities and range of interests (that) have enriched many lives in our communities, our state and our nation.”
As a trial lawyer, Groch argued cases before the N.J. Supreme Court and Federal Appellate Courts on subjects including adoption, spousal abuse, discrimination (age, race and gender) and health insurance coverage.
She represented women nationwide and up to the U.S. Supreme court to compel insurers to cover high dose chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer.
Groch also helped found the Northfield Public Library, the Atlantic County New School and the Atlantic County Women’s Center and was the first female major party candidate for N.J.
Senate from Atlantic County.
The ACAAUW has invited the community to join in celebrating Groch’s activism and dedication to improving the quality of life for so many.
