L’Chaim - A ‘MazelTov Cocktail’

Jamie A. Fox brings her one-woman show to an Off-Broadway engagement. Jamie A. Fox brings her one-woman show to an Off-Broadway engagement. Jamie A. Fox opened her one-woman show, “MazelTov Cocktail,” earlier this week for a limited, four-week engagement at the McGinn/Cazale Theatre, 2162 Broadway at West 76th St. The show will run to Feb. 20.

“MazelTov Cocktail,” which made its west coast premiere to sold out houses and rave reviews, has now come east with its universal story of family struggles that has been called “hilarious and thoughtful.”

The “struggles,” are loosely based on her life, says her father, who happens to be Jack I. Fox, executive director of the Milton and Betty Katz JCC of Margate. He’s also the same person who remembers when Jamie began “taking acting classes at the JCC in Columbus, Ohio, when she was 8 years old.”

In “MazelTov Cocktail” the now veteran actress-writer offers a performance that serves up laughs with the type of absurdities we tell ourselves in order to get through the hard times. Maria Mileaf (A Body of Water and Lobster Alice) directs the 90-minute dark comedy, which is produced by Marilyn Ziering.

Developed at Comedy Central Stage, Backstage proclaimed “MazelTov Cocktail” “A Trip!” and the Jewish Journal roared “a whole new side of Jewish Living: the hysterically unusual side!” LA Weekly knighted Fox “an engaging personality.”

Demand grew as the show toured across the country with sold-out houses and now this “hilarious and thoughtful!” (Seattle Channel) “universal story” (Jewish.com) makes its New York debut.

“It’s the type of dark comedy about life’s struggles,” says her father. “So you laugh and cry at this show.”
