Golda Meir Hadassah will present award-winning writer Sissy Carpey at their monthly meeting at Beth El Synagogue in Margate on Wednesday, March 17 at 11:30 a.m.

Carpey’s work has been published in Hadassah Magazine and its Jewish Parenting Book, the Philadelphia Inquirer, Washington Post and Jewish Exponent. During the Soviet Jewry Movement she wrote award-winning articles about Jews trapped in the Soviet Union. She recognized that, but for a twist of fate, she could have been one of them.

Her novel, “A Piece of Her Heart,” tells the true story of a mother and daughter separated by the Russian Revolution and the lives their families built while apart.

More than a story about one family, her book is a history of a lost Jewish culture and first generation American Jews.
