Vineland’s Beth Israel Cong. to Commemorate Tu B’Shavat

Cantor Shiree Kidron Cantor Shiree Kidron VINELAND — Beth Israel Congregation will commemorate Tu B’Shavat with a celebration at the synagogue, 1015 E. Park Ave., on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 5:30 p.m.

Joining Rabbi Alfredo S. Winter, spiritual leader of Beth Israel, will be Cantor Shiree Kidron, frequent guest at the synagogue who has led High Holy Day, Shabbat, and other services there since September 2008. Cantor Kidron has extensive cantorial and operatic experience in the United States and Israel.

Tu B’Shavat – the “New Year for Trees” – is a day for rejoicing in the fruit of the tree and the abundant gifts of the natural world.

Following Havdallah and a short Tu B’Shavat Seder, a special deli dinner will be served.

Reservations, which are required, are $10 and must be made by Jan. 26.

Born in Haifa, Israel, Cantor Kidron has sung with the Pacific Opera Company, including several Carnegie Hall appearances. She has sung Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro at the New Opera Festival in Rome, Italy, and also sang a solo Yom Ha’atzmaut program at the Israeli Consulate in Houston.

Cantor Kidron was the winner of the Sharon Tavor Vocal Competition for Singers and Orchestra and has performed arias by Mozart and Handel with the chamber orchestra of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. As a scholarship winner of the Israel Vocal Art Institute in 2003 to 2005, she sang in a gala concert at the Tel Aviv Opera House.

She received a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, where her performance of the role of Beauty in Louis Spohr’s Beauty and the Beast was highly acclaimed and was issued by Albany Records. Her successful Hodel in the 2006 Natchez (MS) Opera Festival’s 2006 production of Fiddler on the Roof resulted in a return engagement in Mississippi to perform in a Jewish program.
