EVELYN TASOFF

Evelyn Tasoff (nee Nathanson), 99, of Ventnor, passed away January 6, 2010 at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point. She was born in Kenilworth, N.J. and also lived in Plainfield and Newark as a child. She and her late husband, Joseph, lived for many years in Irvington before retiring to the Jersey shore and their beloved boardwalk in 1978.

A 1928 graduate of South Side H.S. in Newark, Evelyn graduated from Newark Normal School (now Kean University) in 1930 and taught for many years in the Irvington public schools where she was known as a dedicated teacher, and often served as the accompanist for school musicals, having studied classical piano for many years. She was also an avid reader and knitter and loved cooking and baking for her family.

Predeceased in 1996 by her husband of 57 years, Joseph, and by her siblings Louis, Lillie and Herman; she is survived by her children Dr. Alan (Jacalyn) Tasoff of Egg Harbor Township, and Judith of Westfield. She is also survived by her adored and devoted grandchildren, Beth Jadick of Kingsland, Ga.; Margot (Jeffrey) Lischin of Northfield; Aaron Tasoff of Egg Harbor Township, and Nicola Gundlach-Tasoff of Mays Landing. Also surviving are her beloved great-grandchildren Alyssa Thurston, Malorie Jadick and Matthew and Rachel Lischin. She also leaves her dedicated caregivers Elizabeth Swider and Ula Geisler.

Graveside services were held Friday, Jan. 8, at Emeth Shalom Cemetery in Egg Harbor Township. Memorial donations in Evelyn’s honor may be made to Jewish Federation of Atlantic & Cape May Counties, 501 N. Jerome Ave., Margate NJ 08402
