Help JFS Put Turkeys on Holiday Tables
Help area families and individuals have a reason to be thankful. Despite the recent indications of economic recovery, many area residents are still struggling to put food on the table.
Some individuals helped by food pantries must choose between buying food and paying rent or other important bills. Many are children and senior citizens living on fixed incomes below the poverty level.
You can help families and individuals who are struggling by donating a Butterball turkey and/or additional “fixings.” By purchasing a $25 Butterball gift check, you can provide a turkey to feed a family of 6 with enough for leftovers. Donations for higher amounts will allow the purchase of holiday trimmings such as cranberry sauce and stuffing, or other necessary staples.
One family currently being served by Jewish Family Service consists of a mom and a dad who is a disabled veteran. Their eldest child has just been stationed in Iraq, and they are struggling to raise their remaining five children and the young cousin they have taken in – all on Mom’s salary.
In the past, Jewish Family Service has successfully met the needs of individuals and families in our community, but we can only fulfill the increased requests with your help.
