Family Life Programs at JFS
Life is full of ever-changing challenges and demands. The Rothenberg Center for Family Life at Jewish Family Service helps people cope with the ups and downs of everyday life such as: adjusting to changing family dynamics and typical developmental ages and stages, developing positive relationship skills among and with adolescents, dealing with the care of aging parents, making the most of grandparenting, staying afloat through stormy economic times, or enhancing educational professional development skills.
Back by popular demand, the Center is again offering the "The Breakfast Club" a place to sample practical, userfriendly parenting tips along with delicious breakfast treats. Programs will be offered at The Breakfast Club Restaurant in Margate from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on the 2nd Tuesday of each month beginning October 13th and, new this year, at Formica's Bakery in Northfield on the 2nd Thursday of each month beginning October 15th. Specific topics: Work to Go…Homework Survival Kit, Juggling the Demands of Everyday Life (work, family, school, activities), Social Challenges from Teasing to Bullying, Sex, Drugs and Alcohol…When/How to Talk to your Children?, Tools Children Need to Build Self-Esteem and Wedged Between the Needs of Your Children and Your Aging Parents. For a detailed schedule, please check our website at www.jfsatlantic.org.
The Center also offers evening parenting programs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. such as: "Riding the Waves of the Teen Years" on March 18th, "Talking to Adult Children" on April 22nd and "Grandparenting" on May 13th. Other programs include economic response workshops to help families with budgeting, job searching and other support services and, in collaboration with Atlantic Cape Community College (ACCC), the Center provides Early Childhood Professional Development Courses.
When a more individualized approach may be appropriate, the Center offers "Personal Coaching for Parents," where parents can meet individually with a Parent Educator to discuss personal concerns and situations about their children.
