Parkinson's Disease Research Project
Physical therapists and business owners Jodi Handler, PT, DPT and Patricia Brick, PT, MS, GCS are proud to announce that Therapy & Living Consultants, PC (TLC) at 1418 New Road, Suite 3 in Northfield, and the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey Doctor of Physical Therapy Program are collaborating on a research project entitled: Community Based Wellness Program for Individuals with Parkinson's Disease.
The purpose of this research is to determine the effects of a multi-dimensional exercise program on balance, fall risk, and quality of life in individuals with Parkinson's Disease (PD). It is hoped that by participating in these activities, secondary complications caused by PD will be delayed or prevented.
Dr. Handler, co-investigator of the study, is seeking individuals living in the community with a diagnosis of mild to moderate Parkinson's Disease for inclusion in the study. Participants must provide medical clearance by their physician.
The 16-week program, starting on July 7, 2009, consists of FREE balance and Tai Chi classes and a FREE membership to Miracles Fitness in Northfield. The study is limited to 20 participants. If you are interested or know someone who might be, please contact Jodi Handler at 645- 8282 or e-mail her at handlerjg@yahoo.com. TLC is an outpatient rehabilitation facility that has been providing individualized and personal physical therapy services to the baby boomer, older adult and chronically disabled population since 2005. Physical therapy services are also provided at home for those who cannot get out to the office.
