Our Vibrant Jewish Community

By Bob Seltzer Executive Vice President Jewish Federation of Atlantic and Cape May Counties

How many times have you had this experience: home from a long international trip saying, "It's great to be home. You don't know how lucky you are until you see how things are in other countries."

Bob Seltzer Bob Seltzer I believe the same thing happens here, every day: We are so accustomed - perhaps even oblivious - to the beauty and importance of our institutions. We simply forget how much good happens.

Truly, our cups runneth over. Just over the past 50 days, among many other achievements and activities, we have: Marked Israel Memorial Day Celebrated Israel Independence Day Honored Hebrew High School Graduates Observed Holocaust Remembrance Day Published a book on Jewish Business in Atlantic City Completed our eruv Learned from scholars Unified two day schools Expanded our Holocaust Resource Center

And read about all of it in our important Jewish Times!

And the list goes on. How do I know? Because once this piece is published, I will receive letters of complaint from members of our community, asking why I failed to list this event or that event!

And, while all this observing, learning, unifying, publishing and expanding was happening, we are quietly, and most important Jewishly, caring for people who need our help - here in our neighborhood, in the neighborhoods of Israel, and in our world-wide neighborhood.

So...open your eyes - once again - to our community, our beautiful Jewish community.

And then kvell.
