Tickets are still available for the exclusive movie premiere of "Defiance," which will be held at the Tilton 9 Movie Theatre, Tilton Road, Northfield, on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m.

"Defiance" is the true story of the four Bielski brothers who escaped Nazi occupied Poland and began a Jewish partisan group in the woods. They saved approximately 1,200 lives and these Holocaust survivors have over 10,000 family members today. The Bielski brothers represented hope during a time of despair.

Admission is by advance sale only,

and the cost is $18 per person. Proceeds from the evening will benefit Stockton's Holocaust Resource Center - which announced the premiere - in its mission serving as a resource for the study of the Holocaust and its significance for the past, present, and future. This film is directly linked to our South Jersey community. There are some partisans and Holocaust

survivors who knew the Bielski brothers during the war and after who are members of Stockton's Holocaust Resource Center. This film and the

legacy of Jewish resistance during WWII are important lessons for today.

Bethanie Gorny, chair of the Defiance Movie Premiere Committee from the Holocaust Resource Center, said, "An important part of the mission of the Holocaust Resource Center is to promote awareness and understanding of the Holocaust. For the first time Hollywood has made a film that depicts an aspect of the Holocaust that has received little attention until now. The existence of Jewish parisans during the war is an untold story whose time has come."

Other members of the committee include Colin Bell, Sindy Finkelson, Rona Kaplan and Anne Bullen.

Gorny called the film "Yet another chapter in the miraculous story of the survival of the Jews against the most formidable force they ever had to face in their long history of persecution."

Reservations for the premiere of "Defiance" are by check or money order payment. Please make checks payable to Stockton College Foundation and mail to Stockton Holocaust Resource Center, P.O. Box 195, Pomona, NJ 08240. Space is limited and admission is by advance sale only. For more information call 652-4699 or email gail.rosenthal@stockton.edu.

For those who attend the premiere viewing, a resource booklet to supplement the film will be distributed.
