A community memorial service for the victims of the Mumbai terrorist attacks will be held at the Milton and Betty Katz JCC of Margate on Sunday, Dec. 14, at noon.

A statement from Chabad of Atlantic County calls the wounds of the tragedy still fresh and the pain raw.

"The past weeks have been a harrowing time for all of us as we watched brutal carnage take the place of normal life and hundreds of deaths and terrible injuries ensue in Mumbai, India," the statement continues. "For the Jewish Community this has been especially difficult as we have lost six of our brothers and sisters including our colleagues, Rabbi Gabi and Mrs. Rivki Holzberg, who were murdered at the Chabad House they directed in Mumbai."

According to news reports, the terrorists were sent to India to target Israelis in general and the Chabad outreach center specifically as it was frequented by Israelis. A report in the Times of India quoted a source as saying that some of the terrorists killed in the operation had earlier rented rooms at the Chabad center, identifying themselves as Malaysian students, in order to study the building.

Israel Radio quoted Indian security officials as saying that the Israelis evidently were murdered at the outset of the attacks and not during the commando raids sent to free them two days later.

Sunday's memorial will be a one-hour gathering that will include words of inspiration, psalms, personal recol-lections, a video presentation and positive resolutions that can be undertaken in memory of Rabbi and Mrs. Holzberg and for their 2-year-old surviving son Moshe'le.
