The Richard Simon Center for Alzheimer's of Galloway Township is pleased to display their Alzheimer's quilt for the month of November in honor of National Alzheimer's Disease month. The quilt, produced by members of the Center's monthly Support Group and families in the community, is currently being displayed in the Boardwalk area of Seashore Gardens Living Center. In order to make the beautiful quilt, family members provided personal articles for their individual patch, to honor a loved one who has suffered, or is currently suffering from, Alzheimer's disease. A special patch was also created in memory of Richard Simon, whose family and friends came together to form The Richard Simon Center for Alzheimer's. Norma Bryant, an employee at Seashore Garden Living Center, volunteered many hours of her time piecing together the quilt, which helps tell a story about each person represented. "The Alzheimer's Quilt was created out of the love felt from some of the family members of those in our Alzheimer's Support Group or associated with the Richard Simon Center. It is a quilt made out of a special love and we are pleased that we can display it in honor of Alzheimer's Awareness Month" stated Jan Golembiski. "Each block is a special remembrance of their loved one."

The Richard Simon Center for Alzheimer's offers free Alzheimer's support group meetings for community members. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at Seashore Gardens Living Center. Topics covered in the support groups include ways to relieve caregiver stress, recognizing and differentiating signs of Alzheimer's and dementia, and techniques for maintaining brain health through exercises and 'brain fitness.' Support groups are led by Jan Golembiski, certified dementia practitioner, social worker and Coordinator of the Richard Simon Center for Alzheimer's.
