Showing off copies of the new book "Portraits of Resilience: Holocaust Survivors of South Jersey" presented to area survivors and their families at a reception at the JCC in Margate are (l-r) Gail Kamis, book publisher Rob Huberman, Ellen Wetzel, Jack and Bethanie Gorny and Stockton College Holocaust Resource Center Director Gail Rosenthal. About 75 first and second generation Holocaust survivors and their families and friends turned out for a special reception at the JCC in Margate recently to celebrate the opening of the photo exhibit "Portraits of Resilience: Holocaust Survivors of South Jersey."
The group was addressed by Beth El Rabbi Emeritus Aaron Krauss, Richard Stockton College Holocaust Resource Center Director Gail Rosenthal and Resource Center Board Director Jack Gorney.
Each of the survivor families were presented with two copies of a book celebrating the exhibit. Published by former Jewish Times Managing Editor Rob Huberman's ComteQ Publishing in Margate, the hard cover book contains 82 portrait photographs along with life stories of area survivors. The book was designed under the supervision of HRC assistant director Maryann McLoughlin and the exhibit by Stockton College photography professor Wendell White. Both were made possible by grants from the Foundation of the Jewish Federation of Atlantic and Cape May Counties and the New Jersey Council for the Humanities.
The exhibit is on display in the lobby of the JCC through Dec. 12th. The book is available online at www.ComteQ publishing.com, or by calling 487-9000.
