HOLOCAUST MUSEUM REMEMBERS MILES LERMAN, OPENS NAZI PROPAGANDA EXHIBIT

Assuredly, one of Cumberland County's and South Jersey's most revered Jewish leaders is the late Miles Lerman, a founder of the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. Lerman, accorded the rare honor as the museum's Chairman Emeritus, was also one of the museum's most generous financial supporters donating millions of dollars. This past June, six months after his passing at age 88, an elite gathering of Jewish leaders including his wife,

Chris, paid tribute to him as a "founding father" of the museum thus establishing his legacy. Recently the museum was busy completing plans for the unveiling this coming January of a new exhibit, "State of Deception," examining the power of Nazi propaganda, which played a pivotal role in inciting violence and genocide leading to the "final solution." Museum Director

Sara J. Bloomfield declared, "As we face the challenging future, we believe 'State of Deception' will offer valuable insights from this important past." Beginning in January, the Museum's web site - ushmm.org - will provide additional information on the new exhibit.

ROBYN KIMMEL WILL APPEAR IN MACY'S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE IN NYC

Macy's officials are very selective in choosing the floats and people appearing in their Thanksgiving Day Parade. Next Thursday in the Big Apple, Robyn Kimmel, daughter of Dr. Barry (physician) and Helen Kimmel of Cape May Court House, will have that honor. Robyn was selected in a national audition to perform with a group of kids at Camp Broadway, said her parents. And they added, "This group of talented youngsters will perform in the parade's closing number in front of Macy's at Herald Square. In addition, Robyn was selected to ride the float, 'Winter in Central Park,' with a special guest that has yet to be announced." Robyn has been in NYC for a week preparing for the big day. "We are very proud of her," said her parents.

What organization can be a more worthwhile recipient of the NJ Historical Commission's

Richard Hughes (former N.J. Governor) Award than the South Jersey Cultural Alliance. They alone put South Jersey on the state's cultural map with the help of the late Lillian Levy (Ventnor) a founder and leader of the group. She was a winner of its prestigious Paul Aiken Award for her key role in converting this region of the state from a cultural wilderness to a cultural oasis. She used her position as chairperson of the NJ State Arts Commission to bring this about. Former local theater critic Doris Grossman, myself and Michael Cool, director of the Stockton College PAC were awarded the Alliance's "Encore Award" for promoting the PAC over the years as this area's leading performing arts venues. Former Atlantic County Senator Bill Gormley and his wife, Virginia, were also honored for their work. The award is being presented tomorrow, Nov. 22 at Trenton's Mariott Hotel. This award is given to an organization "for lifetime achievement in the field of NJ History." "We are extremely grateful for this acknowledgement," declared the Alliance's Executive Director, Cynthia Lambert.

CORRECTING ERROR ON MINA SHAKARSHY'S SQUASH ROLE AND MOTHER'S NAME

In a recent column, HM, said Mina Shakarshy was a member of the Lawenceville School's Junior Varsity Squash team when actually she is a member of the school's varsity. Congratulations to Mina and we apologize to Shelley.

MANNA BENEFIT DEC.7 RAISES FUNDS TO FEED HIV/AIDS AND ONCOLOGY PATIENTS

One of the year's most important charity affairs is the "Manna At The Shore Benefit" set for Sunday. Dec. 7 from 6 to 9 p.m., at Congregation Beth Israel in Northfield. Monies raised at the benefit will pay for the food. And adds, Hoffman, "this is a very important fund raiser." Members of the committee include Hoffman, Susan Simon, Jerry Bernstein, Nina Soifer, Debbie Monheit, Debbie Rosman, Shirley Gash, Carla Gash, Anne Bullen, Adria Light, Lisa Benniger, Irv Pincus and Susan Sokalsky. Many well known and popular area restaurants are participating in the event.
