Brunch & Learn: The Struggle of Sderot

During this special JCC Israel Brunch & Learn on Tuesday, November 25, at 11 a.m. the Milton & Betty Katz JCC will host speaker Natan Galkowicz, father of Dana Galkowicz, resident of Sderot & victim of the recent Sderot attacks. The people of Sderot have suffered almost 8000 rockets attacks from Gaza over the past several years. Dana Galkowicz, 22 years old, of Kibbutz Bror Hayil, was killed by a Kassam rocket fired at Moshav Netiv Ha'asara north of the Gaza Strip. The rocket was launched from Beit Hanoun, in the northern Gaza. Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Fatah all claimed responsibility for the attack. Come meet Dana's father, Natan, to hear about their daily life under the constant rocket attacks and how and why residents like himself live in such close proximity to The Gaza Strip.

Following the speaker, there will be a showing of the Israel documentary film, "Encounter Point." A dynamic movie which moves beyond sensational and canned images to tell the story of an Israeli settler, a Palestinian ex-prisoner, a bereaved Israeli mother and a wounded Palestinian bereaved brother who sacrifice their safety, public standing and homes in order to press for a grassroots movement for nonviolence and peace.

A bagel brunch will be served. This is a free event and is sponsored by the Milton & Betty Katz JCC, Jewish Federation of Atlantic & Cape May Counties and The Board of Jewish Education. For more information, contact Josh Cutler at 609-822-1167 x 138 or email JCutler@jccatlantic.org.
