Seashore Gardens and the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey have been collaborating on a Lecture/ Activity Series, which takes place monthly at the Living Center. This informational series has taken place for the past four years and is funded through a grant from the Harry L. Katz Memorial Foundation. On Monday, October 13, residents gathered in the Theatre of Seashore Gardens Living Center to learn how to make flowers to decorate the Sukkah, which was located outside of Seashore Gardens Living Center through the Sukkot holidays. Sukkot reflects on the temporary field dwellings which Hebrew farmers traditionally used during harvest time. This "harvest festival" is observed for 8 days and includes customs such as decorating the Sukkah (hut), reciting thanksgiving prayers, and sharing meals with friends inside the Sukkah. Jackie Caplan, a volunteer, gave instructions on how to make the delicate flowers out of tissue paper and food coloring. Marcia Fiedler, an instructor of Jewish Studies at Stockton College, assisted her during the program. The beautiful flowers were a wonderful addition to the Sukkah decorations.
