Temple Emeth Shalom presents 5th annual Scholar-in-Residence

Temple Emeth Shalom will present Andrew Berns, a distinguished lecturer in the fields of Jewish history and philosophy, on Nov. 7 and 8, during its Scholar-in-Residence weekend at the Temple. Berns will speak on the topic "From whence cometh so many Jewish Doctors?"

Andrew Berns Andrew Berns Berns, currently a Doctoral candidate in History at the University of Pennsylvania, has an extensive background in Jewish historical studies. He received his Masters degree in Philosophy, Historical Studies, from Cambridge University in the U.K. and a Bachelor's degree from Reed College in Portland, Oregon. He has also served as a research assistant at Harvard University. In addition, he is conversant in Latin, Italian, Hebrew and Spanish.

He will speak Friday evening, Nov. 7, at 5:30 p.m., prior to a Sabbath dinner and dessert. Then on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 8, at 4 p.m., his presentation will be followed by Havdalah services and a light supper at the Temple. Cost for both events is $36 per person.
