2008-09-26 / Community

The Alzheimer's Association's annual Memory Walk has a new location this year, kicking off Oct. 5 at Kennedy Plaza on the boardwalk in Atlantic City. The 5K walk is expected to draw nearly 3,000 people from the region, to raise awareness and funds to fight the disease.

"Memory Walk is our main event of the year. Combined with the excitement of Atlantic City, along with a new route, we're looking forward to a magnificent day," says Linda Coppinger, executive director of the association's South Jersey unit of the Delaware Valley chapter.

Kennedy Plaza is located across from Boardwalk Hall, between Mississippi and Georgia avenues.

The Alzheimer's Association's Memory Walk, nationally presented by Genworth Financial, is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research programs. Held annually in hundreds of communities across the country, this inspiring event calls on volunteers of all ages to become Champions in the fight against Alzheimer's. Champions include those living with the disease, families, caregivers, and corporate and community leaders. Americans who have participated in these walks have raised more than $265 million.
