Keeping up with the Times

The Jewish Times of South Jersey has launched a new, redesigned website - www.Jewishtimessj. com - providing both readers and advertisers an expanded means of being able to connect with the community.

The new site provides full-text and complete archives of past issues. Your current issue and past issues are always with you, wherever you go - just log onto the nearest computer to find out what's happening back home.

"We really feel as if we and our readers can now take full advantage of 21st Century technology, while still maintaining our hamish qualities," said Jewish Times Publisher Shy Kramer. "Much like all print newspapers, we have been facing numerous financial challenges over recent years, challenges that have not abated due to the fragile economy - which affects advertising revenue - and the fact that readers increasingly have a growing desire to get news online.

"With our new website, our intention is to be able to better serve both our readers and advertisers," Kramer said. "And thanks to our dedicated subscribers, this new online dimension becomes possible."

Jewish Times Advertising Director Bonnie LaRoche said that the value of Internet advertising is undeniable.

"With our website we can offer added value for our advertisers with low cost display advertising solutions," LaRoche said. "Print ads appear online next to news stories just as they appear in the print edition. The extra bonus is that online readers can click on an ad to view a larger version and then are directed to the advertiser's website. An additional benefit is that our advertisers also get recognition in search engines, such as Google," LaRoche said. "Another plus is that all advertising will also appear on WebPages by subject - Real Estate, Dining and Entertainment, Financial, Health, General, etc."

Initially, all print advertising will be added to the Jewish Times website free of charge. After a period of time, which will allow advertisers to actually see how their ads will appear online, there will be a minimal charge to have print ads appear online. Online also can be purchased separately.

Jewish Times Editor Gerald Etter views the new website as a medium for communicating that has no limits. "You not only have the means to hold the newspaper in your hands as most of us are used to doing, but by also being able to read it online opens an entire new world," he said. "Every story in the print edition can be accessed by someone anywhere in the world through Google. Why is this important? It extends the value of local news to those on the periphery of our community.

"And just think. You can now email that photo of yourself taken at the last synagogue sisterhood luncheon to your grandson in Long Island," Etter said.

Advertisers can learn more by calling Bonnie LaRoche at 407-0909.
