fashion show

Beth El Sisterhood will be hosting a spaghetti dinner and fashion show on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. Fashions will be provided by Jenny's in Ventnor. Proprietor is Linda Greenspun. Everyone is welcome to attend. The cost for the evening is $18. To make reservations, call 823-2725.

Havdalah at

Beth El will feature "Jammin Jews," Havdalah at the beach, at the Newport Avenue pavilion on the beach in Ventnor on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 9 p.m.. Come for stories by Rabbi Plotkin; sing-alongs with Cantor Goren; Israeli dancing and s'mores. Everyone is welcome. For more information call 823-2725.

Hospital

The Carisbrooke Inn in Ventnor is teaming up with other local businesses to host a charity open house to raise money for the Deborah Hospital Foundation on Saturday, Aug. 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. - rain or shine.

Local businesses - including The Steele Pier, Mentos Ice Cream, The Nostalgia Room Restaurant and AAAA Bike Shop - are teaming up to make this a fun-filled and educational afternoon for the community to enjoy. Visitors can also sign up for chances to win valuable prizes - including free nights at the inn and tickets to the Deborah Heart Foundation Golf outing in September.

Entrance to the event is free to the public. Donations will be collected on-site to support Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills, N.J. Since its inception, Deborah's motto has been, "There's no price on life," and its mission is realized in its commitment to offering medical services without regard to ability to pay. Throughout Deborah's 86-year history, no patient or family member has ever been rendered a bill.

On Friday, August 22 at 7 p.m. Beth El Synagogue and Temple Emeth Shalom will be hosting Kaballat Shabbat services on the Huntington Avenue beach in Margate on Friday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the service will be at Temple Emeth Shalom on Lancaster Avenue. Author Tania Grossinger will kickoff Jewish Book Month for the Board of Jewish Education's ONE BOOK, ONE JEWISH COMMUNITY AT THE SHORE at the Milton and Betty Katz JCC on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. Join Tania as she discusses the reissue of GROWING UP AT GROSSINGER'S, an affectionate look back at the heyday of growing up a Grossinger in the Catskills. Rabbi Visotzky to

speak at Beth El

Rabbi Burton L. Visotzky will speak at Beth El Synagogue on Sunday, Aug. 10, 9th of Av at 7:30 pm. His topic will be Cairo.

Rabbi Visotzky, is a Conservative Rabbi, acclaimed author, and professor at the Jewish Theological Seminary. He serves as the Appleman Professor of Midrash and Interreligious Studies at New York's Jewish Theological Seminary. He also studied moral development at Harvard University under Lawrence Kohlberg. Rabbi Visotzky has been visiting faculty at Oxford, Cambridge, Princeton, and the Russian State University of the Humanities; as well as Union Theological Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Hebrew Union College. In Spring, 2007, he served as Master Visiting Professor of Jewish Studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

There will be a book signing with Rabbi Visotzky at the end of his presentation.

Beth Shalom's

annual bazaar

Temple Beth Shalom of Brigantine has extended a community-wide invitation to attend its annual Bazaar and Book Fest, where you will find the best buys on the island of Brigantine.

The bazaar will be held on Sunday, Aug. 17, starting at 9 a.m. rain or shine. There will be a variety of merchandise including books, dishes, pictures, vases, linens, toys and games, jewelry, phones, knickknacks, candles, baby furniture and many more great items. Everything is priced to sell.
