From Israel: 'The Aluminum Show' makes its American debut at Trump Plaza
"The Aluminum Show," a unique and innovative blend of dance, movement and theater, which originated in Israel, recently made its American debut in The Theatre at Trump Plaza, Atlantic City, and will run through Aug. 31.
Show times are 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. There is also a 3 p.m. matinee on Saturdays. (Theater is dark on Mondays.)
The Aluminum Show has been called an ingenious creation of visual theater, combining dance, puppetry and illusion to stunning effect.
The show was devised by Artistic Director Ilan Azriel, a former dancer in Tel Aviv's Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company.
The Aluminum Show debuted at The Israel Festival, in Jerusalem, in 2003 to wide acclaim. Since then the show has thrilled audiences from Argentina to Portugal, France and other European countries with its use of special effects, creative mechanisms and acrobatic dance, The Aluminum Show fuses together industrial elements and human art to create a luminous reflection of the world.
The concept for Aluminum had been churning in Azriel's mind over a period of time. With first-hand experimentation he mastered the avant-garde uses of various materials and merging them with modern dance and acrobatic dance - backed by eclectic music, special effects and lighting. Throughout the process he was aided and assisted by designer Yuval Kedem, one of the leading experts in Israel for designing accessories and special effects.
Azriel was born in 1968 in Dimona, Israel. He danced for years in Inbal Dance-Theater in Tel Aviv and later on in the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company (KCDC). In 1997, he established the Dollbeat Group as an independent creator. Since then he has staged performances that combine dance, unique choreography and puppetry to operate life-size puppets, masks and other objects.
Audiences as well as critics have been intrigued by the hypnotic music of Avi Belleli and Rafa Sofer. Special effects and original costumes - manufactured with aluminum papers, tubes and pipes that have been collected from factories which are disposing of leftover materials - will appeal to all ages. These materials are used over and over again providing a "green" aspect to the show.
