2008-06-27 / Front Page

Gentle ocean breezes and the scent of brightly colored flowers will provide a spectacular welcome to the Seventeenth Anniversary Show House at the Shore. The Ruth Newman Shapiro Cancer & Heart Fund (RNS) will present its annual exhibition of interior design rooms featuring decorative painting and outdoor living spaces beginning Saturday, July 12.

Seabright on Rumson is a lovely 4,500-square-foot Georgian brick house that has been meticulously restored. Located in Margate's Parkway District at 3 South Rumson Ave., its handsome landscaping provides a lush background for the house and sets off the beautiful multi-paned windows, gabled roof and classic brick exterior.

Every Tuesday and Wednesday morning at 11 a.m., Show House will present "Seashore Conversations," a lecture series featuring nationally renowned authorities in the fields of interior design, the visual arts, home furnishings and accessories, and garden/landscape design. Lectures will be held at the Eugene A. Tighe School Performing Arts Auditorium, 7804 Amherst Ave., Margate. A single Show House ticket may be used for admission to the entire series of eight lectures.

"Meet the Designer Night" will be held every Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Show House. Design participants will be on hand to discuss their work in the Show House and to answer design questions from visitors. Designers from New Jersey and Pennsylvania will participate with numerous craftspeople, product exhibitors and area florists. Furnishings and accessories from the exhibition are available for purchase.

RNS Show House at the Shore will be open to the public from Saturday, July 12 through Sunday, Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily, with extended hours until 8 p.m. every Wednesday and Thursday. Proceeds from the design exhibition will benefit the RNS Regional Cancer Center and the Heart Institute at the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, the RNS Linear Accelerator Suite and Cardiac Care Unit at the Shore Memorial Hospital, Oncology Patient Services at the Cape Regional Medical Center and the Patient Van Service for the RNS Cardiac Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at the Bacharach Institute for Rehabilitation.

Lois Braithwaite, RNS President, applauded the efforts of so many people in the region who make this exhibition possible. "The RNS Show House helps to ensure our financial commitment to the continued expansion of programs and services for residents of southeastern New Jersey with cancer or heart disease. With the number of uninsured and underserved people rising in our region, the support of RNS for these programs and services guarantees availability and access to quality healthcare for all."

A gala Designer Open House and Preview Party featuring wine, hors d'oeuvres and desserts from Atlantic City casino hotels, regional restaurants and country clubs will be held at Seabright on Rumson, Friday evening, July 11, from 7 to 10 p.m. The gala Designer Open House and Preview Party is open to the public. Admission is $60 per person.
