The Jewish War Veterans, Garr Greenstein Post 39, has been awarding grants for the past 18 years to Stockton students. There were five 2008 awardees that received this prestigious scholarship, $1,000 each. All five recipients are outstanding students at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. Each student had demonstrated his or her commitment and interest in Jewish Studies. The awards were presented at a dinner at Beth El Synagogue.

In the spring, Professor Leo Lieberman had met with Dean Jan Colijn, Dean of General Studies, to make recommendations to the Garr Greenstein Post 39, and five students were eventually selected: Chad Juros, Michael A. Morris, Jonathon Beloff, Amy Katz, and Heather Jaindel.

Representing Stockton at the dinner meeting were Gail Rosenthal, supervisor of the Holocaust Resource Center, Professor Marcia Fiedler, who coordinates the Jewish Studies Program at the college, and Professor Leo Lieberman representing Stockton's Jewish Studies Minor Program.

After Dr. Lieberman gave introductory remarks, students were called on to make short presentations and offer words of appreciation. Close to 150 people were in attendance at the event, which was chaired by Post Commander Bernie Friedenberg.
